Grocery Store Pick Up Drivers

Shifts are Tuesday or Thursday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm

ShareNet's mission to provide food to its clients relies heavily on grocery store pick up drivers. Dedicated and reliable drivers are needed to collect donated inventory from local grocers every Tuesday and Thursday. There are two different routes each Tuesday and Thursday morning that require a driver and an assistant. Pick up service area is Bremerton, Silverdale, Poulsbo, and Kingston.

Shifts are approximately 4 hours. This is a physically demanding role, involving bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and loading and unloading packed goods into a ShareNet box truck or van.  We are also looking for on-call drivers to occasionally sub when regular drivers are unavailable. If you would like to be trained as an on-call sub, please indicate that on the volunteer application.

  • Vehicles use a lift gate to load and unload
  • Safety secure items in the vehicle
  • Manage/sign van log
  • Weigh donated goods and record weights
  • Unload donated goods at ShareNet and stock in designated storage areas

Mobile Food Pantry

Active service is approximately 4.5 hours total, 3 hours at the remote site, with an additional 1.5 hours for loading/unloading before and after. Shifts are once a week (day to be determined) for six weeks. This position is always paired with a partner volunteer.

This is an exciting position with the opportunity for deep outreach in our community for those who may struggle with direct access to our food bank site.  As part of an ongoing pilot project called Mobile Food Pantry, this position serves a previously identified location of need in our community with remote service.

Must be able to provide excellent customer service while interacting with diverse customers across a spectrum of needs.

Note that typically no restroom is available at the remote site unless the volunteer was to drive to it.

  • Volunteers will interface with onsite staff for initial loading of ShareNet van, then will unload at the site, setting up tables for the presentation of food.
  • At the close of service, van is reloaded, and will return to ShareNet to unload any surplus food and crates.
  • Volunteers must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with no lifting restrictions.
